Ceaseless change in the job market is called "churning" and many out of work people feel victimized. This phenomenon about jobs is made by many developments and every age seems to search for easy explanations about what's transpiring in the job market. Every age searches for a new "devil" we can bring to attention and accuse, specifically if I am the one who's lost his job.
A few of the events in history which have been used to clarify job churn consist of new technologies and inventions that take away jobs from human beings, or the opening of big box stores that put mom-and-pop places out of business. As time goes on, new services and science deliver in new ways, more economical ways, to do old, familiar tasks, in turn taking old jobs down the tubes.
A recent "devil" was outsourcing or the course of transferring American jobs and tasks overseas into other job markets where human labor is less expensive. We can't blame firms and employers for trying to cut labor costs. If those jobs go to prisoners or illegal immigrants, there can be an objection.
The contemporary "devil" is a not good economy, a puzzling turn of events being influenced by a multitude of factors including mortgage failures, home foreclosures and financial misconduct among big banks and Wall Street firms. To some extent, the American worker has a right to regard him or herself a victim of conditions. The truth of the circumstance, no matter how victimized you may feel, the bad guy or the devil is not going to protect you or make things better.
I have knowledge of a guy that has sent out well over 1000 resumes with not one single bite. It would seem that's all he knows to do in the current job climate. But I've got to ask this man how many resumes will he have to send out before he realizes he is doing a churning of your own? You know the old saying: if you don't want to go bats from doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results, then do something else.
So what can a person do that's different? Sure, keep mailing out those resumes, but remember this: not only are all jobs mortal, but ways of gaining employment also come and go and have a lifespan, which ends with, "The old way just doesn't work anymore."
Here are some suggestions:
- Insert a video of yourself on a website promoting yourself and what you're capable of doing for others and in turn, pay.
- Talk to people, in other words, network, instead of only sending out resumes.
- Frequent job coaching groups and hear what others are doing different.
- Produce a clientele for a skill or service you can provide and become your own person in charge.
- Check out job positions in foreign countries.
- Instead of than looking for a job that will be full-time, with full benefits, conceive in terms of jobs that are more like gigs, that is, one time execution of a service or task.
A desired thing of mine that's unconventional to do is get a coach who can aid you imagine outside the box and be more objective about your scenario. Some one else can invariably be more objective than we are about our predicament and thus consider more clearly about new ways to get money in this modern new age of employment.
